Basic of concrete The word concrete comes from Latin word concretus which has meaning compact or condensed.
Basic of concrete
It is one of the most used building material.
concrete is a composite material which is the mixture of cement paste(binder), fine aggregate and coarse aggregate.'Basic of concrete'
1.Cement is acts as binder material.
2.Sand is fine aggregate.
3.Gravel and crushed stone is the coarse aggregate.
concrete mix ratio
These materials are mixed in proper ratio or in specific proportion to obtains required strength.
This strength is specified as M5, M10, M15, M20, M25 etc.
We also called Grade of concrete. Basic of concrete
In this M stands for Mix and number or we can say that value stands for strength of concrete. For e.g., in M25 , M for Mix and 25 is the strength of concrete in Mpa.
Concrete mix ratio for various grades of concrete are given in following table
Grades | Mix ratio |
M5 | 1:5:10 |
M7.5 | 1:4:8 |
M10 | 1:3:6 |
M15 | 1:2:4 |
M20 | 1:1.5:3 |
M25 | 1:1:2 |
After M25 , we have to refer IS 10262.
So, from above table one can easily find the proportion for various grade of concrete. For e.g., if we have to make M25 grade of concrete then we have to add 1 part of cement + 1 part of fine aggregate + 2 part of coarse aggregate. ''Basic of concrete''
To produce Concrete, we have to mix various ingredients i.e., Water, aggregate, cement that we have seen earlier.
Concrete production is time-sensitive. That means we have to use that concrete before harden from once all the ingredients were mixed.
